Hello Gentle Travelers!
Really? (you may be thinking…) A blog about tortillas? Couldn’t you come up with something a little more….exciting?
The answer? No! To me there is nothing more exciting than tortillas LOL…and here is why! Ever since I was a wee one flayling my newly discovered arms and legs around in a basinet on the back porch of my my grandma’s house in San Diego, California, I remember the delicious aroma of newly hatching tortillas. That was because up the street was El Indio taco shop (and their massive tortilla-making operation)….lucky family!
Later in life, those face-sized saucers of wonder remained a part of my foodie life and a little ray of happiness for my day.
When I decided to go gluten free after being diagnosed with an autoimmune condition in 1998, it was a very sad day indeed. Back then they didnt have all the g.f. options for everything from muffins to bagels like they do now. So, in the spirit of healing my body, I went without gluten (and also corn) for quite a while, poor me…
Boy have things changed! Fast forward, geez, over 20 years and I am mostly gluten free (and corn free too) but I also know how to read my body.
And I know that, as long as I dont overdo it, I get to spend some quality time with my favorite food every once in a while– lovely, buttery, flour tortillas, as long as they are of a good source and preferably made with non GMO and organic flour.
(And I have also been known to scarf down tortillas of any kind if I can see them being made by loving hands on the streetcorners in Mexico or in my hometown of San Diego).
Anyhow, hence the topic of this rather off-the-cuff vlog-style video, where I talk a little about gluten intolerance and why keeping a stack of these Tortilla Frescas in your freezer or frig can be a good idea for easy RV meal prep!
I also go over some basic information about ingredients labels and HImalayan salt so I hope you find this video informative as well as entertaining!
